iPhone 5 Sleep/Wake Button Replacement Program
Apple has determined that the sleep/wake button mechanism on a small percentage of iPhone 5 models may stop working or work intermittently. iPhone 5 models manufactured through March 2013 may be affected by this issue.
The sleep/wake button is located on the top of your iPhone 5:
Apple will replace the sleep/wake button mechanism, free of charge, on iPhone 5 models that:
- exhibit this issue; and
- have a qualifying serial number
If your sleep/wake button isn’t working properly, please enter your iPhone 5 serial number at the Apple public website to see if it qualifies † for this program:

Prepare your iPhone 5 for service
You may not be ready.
Make sure you back up your data, turn off Find my iPhone, erase all Content and Settings, and remove any case or cover. Replacement of the sleep/wake button mechanism may take up to 7 business days. An iPhone 5 (16GB only) loaner is available if you require.
The program covers iPhone 5 models for 3 years after the first retail sale of the unit. In case of long waiting waiting time, you may:
- register for SMS notification (shop around, have a coffee… we’ll notify you as your turn approaches)
- book an appointment in advance if you have verified your eligibility at the Apple public website.
